DAMBACH Lagersysteme GmbH & Co. KG and its predecessor have been producing rail-guided stacker cranes for more than 40 years.
As no two warehouses are the same, no two solutions from DAMBACH are identical either. Individual solutions are worked out together with the customers. Those solutions include rail-guided stacker cranes, pallet-handling technology, control systems and the associated services.
DAMBACH Lagersysteme GmbH & Co. KG began life in 1974 as DAMBACH Industrieanlagen. In the course of restructuring measures, managing director Dr.-Ing. Roland Thumm took over the company in 2006 and positioned it as a 100% family-owned business. The goal was an unmistakable market position in automated warehousing technology, a focus on international sales markets and an organic growth strategy powered from within. The company moved to its new plant in Bischweier in 2008. In the meantime, turnover has more than doubled. DAMBACH Lagersysteme GmbH & Co. KG is among the market leaders.
“Our headquarters in Bischweier is the home of new developments and visions. Although we have a global outlook, we still feel very much at home in southern Germany. There are many reasons for this – the power of innovation in this region and the availability of highly qualified personnel being just two of those. The company is committed to the region and can count on the skills of its experienced workforce. Our modern premises designed to the latest standards enable us to organise production, service, design and sales really efficiently,” says Dr.-Ing. Benjamin Thumm, authorised signatory at DAMBACH since 2016.
The company with its 160 employees is active worldwide. Some 75% of products are exported, with Europe, the USA and China being the main markets. A local presence is very important for DAMBACH. Therefore, since 2012 there has been a branch in the USA for handling projects from sales right through to service. Another branch is planned for Asia.
“We want to be a reliable partner for our customers and supply ambitious yet dependable products,” is how Dr.-Ing. Roland Thumm describes the company’s recipe for success. That was also an important factor during the search for a financial partner, as Dr.-Ing. Roland Thumm explains: “Since DAMBACH Lagersysteme GmbH & Co. KG became an independent company in 2006, the Sparkasse Baden-Baden Gaggenau bank has been handling all our banking and financial needs with great skill. Cooperating with the Sparkasse is always marked by a special trust and fast decisions. Furthermore, the Sparkasse has provided support in many organisational issues, especially when setting up the independent company. The bank initiated the contact and dialogue with the necessary regional bodies and partners. For example, the building of the new plant in 2008 was realised within a very short time.” The next generation of the Thumm family is already working for the company. And there is consensus among family members when it comes to the future of their company.
“Independence in terms of finances and corporate law issues, further healthy, organic growth, a high reliance on exports, not focusing on just one sector of industry and remaining among the market leaders,” is how Dr.-Ing. Benjamin Thumm sums up the way forward for the family business.
Owing to the excellent state of the order books, the production plant in Bischweier will be extended in 2017. That will result in new production capacities and jobs for the region.
